Position Title: Boat Builder’s Assistant

The successful candidate will help facilitate boat building workshops with adults and children and interact with museum visitors in the boat shed. The student will gain valuable knowledge of traditional wooden boat design, construction and use.

The Chief Interpreter candidate must have good communication and organizational skills, ensure that the visitor experience is fulfilling, that visitor needs and expectations are being met, and confirm all staff provide quality interpretation. This person would also be responsible for training summer staff and overseeing their needs for the duration of the season.

CSJ Program: Canada Summer Jobs

Length of Assignment: 3 positions for 9 weeks and 1 position for 8 weeks
Positions: Museum Chief Interpreter, Boat Building Assistant, Special Events Coordinator, Museum Interpreter.

Start Date: June 25, 2017
End Date: September 02, 2017
Salary: $10.75 – $12.00 per hour / 35 hours per week

All positions require excellent communications and organizational skills, become familiar with developing visitor experiences through interpretation, assisting the Master Boatbuilder in day to day activities, become familiar with the artefact collection and museum exhibits, answer questions and deliver daily programming. Responsibilities also include handling cash, recording daily visitor statistics and general activities associated with daily opening and closing procedures.
