The Indeavour Saga

In the summer of 1610, a group of English colonists landed at Cuper’s Cove, Conception Bay, on the wild east coast of Newfoundland. They built a tiny settlement where the town of Cupids now stands. It was the first English colony in what later became Canada.

The Indeavour Saga, curated by Hilary Cass, tells the story of the voyage from Cupids to Trinity Bay, John Guy’s contact with the Beothuk people and the spread of European settlement.

Gander River Boat Exhibition

The Gander River Boat (also known as a Gander Bay Boat or Gander River Canoe) was designed and modified by generations of Gander Bay builders to suit the specific conditions of the Gander River.
The Gander River Boat Exhibition tells the story of how and why this boat was built, and highlights three locals builders who continue to build them: Basil Gillingham, Lester Vivian and Eugene Saunders.
